DUE TO AVIAN INFLUENZA FOUND IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON, WE ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND ANY POULTRY SHOWS THIS MONTH.
Avian Influenza was tested positive in 2 flocks in Southwest Washington, summoning the Washington State Veterinarian to advise the PNPA to cancel their show at the Clark County Event Center, and the Stevenson Poultry Classic had to omit the entry of Waterfowl, which means we are not able to exhibit. We hope there is no chance of the spread of AI to adjacent flocks, and the Washington Department of Agriculture can prevent it from spreading into Oregon. We may still be at the Stevenson Poultry Classic, as I still have a poster and want to do showmanship (Thanks to the show secretary loaning me a chicken.) I hope the AI doesn’t spread.
THE AVIAN FLU FOUND IS CURRENTLY LOW PATHOGENIC, MEANING SYMPTONS ARE INCONSPICUOUS OR MILD. BUT IT CAN TURN A HIGH PATHOGENIC FORM WHERE IT KILLS VERY RAPIDLY AND SPREADS EASILY AND FAST BETWEEN BIRDS, AND POSSIBLY TO PEOPLE, SO BE CAREFUL, AND IT IS ALEAYS A GOOD IDEA TO KEEP YOUR BIRDS CONTAINED AS IT IS MIGRATION SEASON.
